However, the next area event is in Harpersville, Alabama on Saturday,  December 17. It is the 8th Annual Reindeer Rallycross. Click this link to their forum for more information.

Sadly though, it seems that the TN Region (Nashville/Manchester) has lost its site in Manchester. And while we’re working on a couple of leads for new sites, all of our dates for 2011 are TBA until we can get deals going. If you live in Middle TN and know of someone with land we might be able to use, email me!

It’s funny…for a “Tennessee Region” blog, all I’ve got are dates for Alabama-area rallycross…but there are a bunch of them! Also, take note that Tarmac events are being planned for June, July, August, and September in Harpersville. Coming up the weekend of April 2 and 3, there will be a 2-day Rallycross event. I am going to try and make that, I hear Edwin and the gang down there are really kicking butt. (Click on one of the Alabama-Region links to the right for more info!)

As always, at TVR rallycrosses, register/tech and when you make a “recce” (parade) lap, if you decide you would rather NOT participate….then your entry fee will be refunded. Complete a timed-run and that deal is off. So, really nothing to lose…..and you may find out what some of us already know. Like the Dirt Dog says……….”this is the most fun you can have in your car, and still keep your pants on!“

The folks at the old BBQ restaurant in Greenbriar let us eat their hush puppies and fried catfish after the event is over.

Saturday’s forecast originally called for thundershowers, but by the time we got the first car out leisurely after noon, there were only two quick showers—just enough to keep the dust calm and the cool breeze going every now and then. Saturday’s course was tough, very technical. When Randy and I set up the course, we added some creative spots, but I had no idea how much of a workout the course would be! The approximately 2-minute course tuned out to be about 1.8 miles.

On Sunday, the weather was absolutely beautiful! It was cool right up until noon, and the breeze continued to blow throughout the day, which helped combat the humidity. By the end of the day, though, the dust was kicking up pretty fierce, and a few in the last heat were driving into a little bit of their own dirt clouds. The day’s course was reversed from Saturday, and most of the technical kinks were straightened out for a much faster course, covering the same distance. Sunday’s course brought about times that were in the 1.5 minute mark, and there were some sweet wide arcs which prompted some oversteer, whether you wanted it or not!

Big thanks goes to John Roberts Toyota, for once again letting us use the site. Thanks to our club Tennessee Region for your support. And BIG thanks goes to everyone who pitched in to help with working corners, timing and the start. We couldn’t have done it without the tremendous help from everyone who was there!!

In the next day or two, we will have the results posted, as well as some photos and in-car videos.

This year we’re doing the scheduling a little different, to accomodate people who are driving long distances. We will be starting the runs at noon on Saturday to give people a chance to make it in without waking up at the crack of dawn. Also that allows people time to eat a good lunch before getting out there. After 2 heats on Saturday, we will all gather at the official hotel (more on that later) for an evening social with some wings and drinks. Then there will be 1 heat on Sunday, so that everyone will have plenty of time to wrap up and head home.

We are going to make this a long track design to give everybody their money’s worth, and we will run it backwards on Sunday. We have a huge lot and we are going to take advantage of it!

Also, we are keeping the cost at the same as last year’s regardless of rising costs of other SCCA events, in light of what feels like a really tight year on people’s budgets.

We start running at NOON. There will be 2 heats on Saturday, and 1 heat on Sunday.

We highly recommend staying at the Ramada Inn, it is nice and clean and relatively inexpensive and we use the banquet room for our get-together. In the morning it has breakfast served there. Mention SCCA when you make your reservation to get the discount. Cost is $50 per room for 1 or 2 people. If you have more than that in one room, talk to ‘NISH’ or nancy and see what they will charge you. This includes an executive continental breakfast each morning. They have a beautiful breakfast buffet area that we are going to use Saturday night for eating, drinking and socializing.

Cost:
$65 for both Saturday and Sunday
